We drove about an hour or so south of where Taylor and Stephen live to SHARON, VERMONT which is the birthplace of Joseph Smith. I knew there was a monument there, but I didn't know what else to expect. We were pleasantly surprised at what we found there.
We started in the visitor's center watching a few films about families and the life of Joseph Smith. The entire site is dedicated to family. It was very special.
Our adorable couple missionary got the golf cart out of the garage, just for us. It was one of the most fun parts of the tour!! She went SO FAST and the boys were laughing and giggling the whole time. It would have taken us so long to hike all the trails, but since we were the only visitors at that time, we got the VIP treatment! FYI this photo is not doctored. We were hauling!!
Joseph and his family lived in Sharon for the first ten years of his life. He was surrounded by grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters and cousins. They played in these woods and in these streams. They visited one another and gathered for family events. I could just imagine all of the love they shared as a close knit family.
The first stop was his grandfathers home.
This was Solomon the Salamander that Caden found. :)
I wish this picture was clear, but you can still read it.
Isn't this amazing? It's the original stone bridge that has been used for centuries!!
I'm so glad Taylor could go down there with us! We sure miss having her around!

We then went back to the monument. Joseph Smith was born here on 23 December 1805.
On 23 December 1905, on what would have been Joseph's 100th birthday, the monument was dedicated by then prophet of the church, Joseph F. Smith.
It stands at 38 1/2 feet tall. One foot for every year the beloved prophet lived on the earth.
